Movie Review: the Coffin Movie Review

The Coffin Movie Review – Introduction

“TEMPT Fate, Cheat Death.” That is the central theme of director Ekachai Uekrongtham’s movie, The Coffin. It is inspired by a controversial but real Thai ritual where thousands of people turn up at a temple north-east of Thailand to lie in coffins because they believe this rids them of bad luck and prolong life.

The Coffin Movie Review – The Sequel

Chris (Ananda Everingdam), a claustrophobic architect, goes through the ritual to save his dying fiancee, Mariko. Sue (Karen Mok), a nutritionist from Hong Kong visits Thailand and does the same to save herself from cancer, one week before her wedding.

After that, both of them experience what appear to be miracles. To Chris’ delight, Mariko awakes from her coma. Sue not only survives a car accident, but also finds out that her cancer is gone.

However, strange and frightening things start to happen. Chris and Mariko are haunted by a woman in white (Napakpapha Naprasitte), and her baby. Sue’s fiancee, Jack dies suddenly in a car accident but spirit still lingers around her.

With the help of a professor specialising in paranormal cases related to the ritual, they set out to exorcise the ghosts haunting them and reverse the wheel of Karma.

The Coffin Movie Review – My Review of The Coffin

The Coffin opened at number one at the Thai box office and we can see why. Shot in provinces across Thailand including a 100-year-old temple and real cemeteries, the film features terrifying yet beautifully symmetrical scenes, like hundreds of coffins arranged in a circle around a gigantic Buddha and a long closet full of mirrors on both sides.

The movie also shocks when least expected, after you let your guard down.

Credits has to be given to the performance of the actors. Ananda Everingham and Karen Mok truly bring out Chris’ sensitivity and Sue’s vulnerability. Napakpapha Naprasitte’s villainous but heroic character is played out excellently as well.

However, the plot remains unclear as there are no links between Chris’ And Sue’s stories as I write The Coffin Movie Review and we never discover the woman in white until the very last moment.

All in all, this is a thrilling yet moving tale about coming face-to-face with living and dying.

How to Write a Film Review

Writing a film review can be fun and a way of giving your opinion about a film you have seen. It will also broaden your appreciation of films and help people from wasting money on a bad film. If you are lucky you might even get the chance to have your reviews published and get paid for it.

The stepping stones for writing a film review

Step One

Watch a film. Even if you think it will be bad. You don’t just want to see movies that you know you are going to like. How will you be able to compare the good and bad movies then?

Step Two

Write down some things to remember during the film or do some online research – www.imdb.com has a lot of information about most films. Write down the names of the stars, director, screenwriter and the year it was made. Note how long the film is and give it a rating.

Step Three

Take time to let the film soak into your brain. Think about it for a few hours and then begin writing. Let your appreciation or distaste wear off a bit so you don’t write too emotionally. At this time you should think about the set. Were the costumes well made? Were the characters believable?

Step Four

Who do you think this film is aimed at? Will this be enjoyed by children, university grads or is it a date movie? It is the general public who will be reading a newspaper review, not a group of film freaks wanting you to dissect every inch of a film.

Step Five

Start with the introduction. Most film review readers like to be entertained by the review, so think up a good line to hook the reader or a theme for your review.

Step Six

Start writing the review. Include the basic plot of the movie and cover the major events but do not give away the surprise ending. People want to know about the film but not told everything. You almost want to entice people to go if it is good and keep them away if it is bad. Movie reviews are typically 250 to 500 words.

Step Seven

Discuss relevant parts of the film. Include your opinion of the direction, script, actors and photography.

Step Eight

Writing a movie review is perfect for blogging

Iron Man 2 Trailer

Iron Man 2 Movie Trailer
E.M. Hammer

You wanted it and now it’s here: Iron Man 2 is coming to a theater near you this spring. The question of course is what it’s about and when the official trailer is going to come out. We don’t have the official trailer yet, but we can tell you a little something about to expect in the next movie.

First off, Jon Favreau  has been brought back to direct the sequel after he stunned the box office with his smash success back in 2008 and Robert Downey Jr., whose career had been in something of a nose dive is coming back as well, reprising his role as Peter Stark, the Iron Man himself. This time, our hero will face off against old comic book favorites Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell) and Whiplash (Mickey Rourke).

Readers will recall that the first movie ended with Stark admitting to his true identity as Iron Man and S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury visiting him to discuss the “Avenger Initiative.” This time around, Stark is dealing with the consequences of his rash decision and the subsequent fame and infamy that come from admitting his superhero status. He is battling an increasing drinking problem and being confronted by his strange new secretary, Natasha, who just so happens to be a super spy in her own right, the Black Widow (played by Scarlett Johansson ).

Of course Pepper Potts (still played by Gwyneth Paltrow) is back as well and is now the CEO of Stark Industries. We can only imagine all the tension on the set and in the movie between her and  Johansson’s Black Widow. Still, Paltrow has promised fans that this will not be the typical bout between two women fighting for the same man, telling Entertainment Weekly that this is not going to be your standard cat fight. Instead, it will be more nuanced, providing for a level of sexual tension sure to thrill movie goers this spring.

Missing from the original cast is Terrence Howard, who played Stark’s best friend, Lt. Colonel James “Rhodey” (War Machine) Rhodes. He is being replaced by Don Chedle of Oceans 11 and Hotel Rwanda fame.

So what will the new movie be about? Well we do know this: Favreau has promised that the movie will explore Stark’s alcoholism but will not be a rehash of the comic story, Demon in a Bottle. Rather, says Iron Man Robert Downey Jr., it’s going to be kind of an interim story, taking place somewhere between Iron Man’s Origins and the Demon in a Bottle Story.

The one thing we can say for sure about the movie is that it’s going to hot and action packed. But for more details, we’re going to have to wait for that movie trailer, which should be arriving shortly on a screen near you.
